Restorative justice is a process which enables communication between those harmed by an incident and the person responsible. It can be a powerful response to address harm caused. Our 3 hour seminar is an introduction to restorative practice, the principles and the benefits for participants.

Introduction to restorative practice seminar

Training objectives

  • To examine restorative practice as an alternative response to harm (an offence).
  • To explore the benefits of restorative practice for the harmed person (victim) and the harmer (perpetrator).
  • To understand how restorative practice is being used in the UK.

Seminar content

  • Knowledge and understanding of restorative practice definition, principles and processes.
  • The different types of restorative approaches direct conferences and indirect approaches.
  • Benefits of restorative practice for the harmed person (victim) and the harmer (perpetrator).
  • To inform delegates about the different organisational contexts that restorative approaches are being used in.

The seminar involves trainer input, group discussion and interactive activities to understand restorative practice. The seminar will be delivered by Calm’s restorative co-ordinator and a trained practitioner.

This is an introduction session and prior knowledge of restorative practice is not necessary.

Who should attend

The seminar is suitable for magistrates, probation, police, NHS, managers, teachers or criminal justice professionals who encounter offending behaviour and want to find out more about restorative justice. The training is suitable for any person interested in learning more about restorative practice or who are thinking about introducing restorative approaches in their organisation.

Dates: we are running two seminars the first on 22 June 2017 and the second on 6 November 2017.

Time of seminar: 1.30pm start and 4.30pm finish in Hammersmith, London.
