General Information on looking for volunteering opportunities in restorative justice

A good starting point when looking for volunteering opportunities is to contact your local Youth Justice Service / Youth Offending Team (YOT) or and see what RJ initiatives / projects they are involved in.

Restorative justice is a statutory part of the youth justice system and you may be able to volunteer as a referral order panel member.

Our Trainer and Practitioner Registers are also a good point to start from as there are contact details for individuals and organisations who are working in RJ across the country. You can find information at the top right hand corner of every page on our website.

Whilst referral orders are by process supposed to contain a strong RJ element, practice and culture does vary between YOTs so if you don't find an opportunity or opening to suit with your local YOT, try further afield.

Your local mediation service may be looking for volunteers. Many mediation services employ restorative approaches in the context of victim-offender mediation and community disputes.

If you would like to volunteer with the RJC directly then we are often looking for individuals with a range of skills and interests to help us perform the daily running of the organisation. We are based in Central London, so please contact us if this is of interest to you.
