Cutting Crime: the case for justice reinvestment

On January 14th, the Justice Committee of the House of Commons published their report on Justice Re-investment. In the context of their wider argument for Government to invest in initiatives which prevent crime, the report cites evidence supporting further investment in Restorative Justice.

The report states: “We are surprised by the cautious approach that the Government has taken towards Restorative Justice but we welcome its current commitment to revive the strategic direction in this area. We urge the Justice Secretary to take immediate action to promote the use of restorative justice and to ensure that he puts in place a fully funded strategy which facilitates national access to restorative justice for victims before the end of this Parliament.”
