HRH The Princess Royal Launches the Restorative Justice Council as Patron

We are delighted to receive the support of the Princess Royal as the new patron of the Restorative Justice Council.

Her Royal Highness spoke to RJC members at the celebration launch event of the new Restorative Justice Council hosted by Clifford Chance on the 12th January 2011.

Her Royal Highness said "I am delighted to be patron to the Restorative Justice Council, as it becomes the quality assurance body for this field. The RJC has a critical role to play in  ensuring that restorative justice is of high quality, and safe for everyone involved – building on it’s longstanding strengths as the membership body for this field of work, and the expertise and commitment of all RJC members.

I congratulate the RJC on the progress the organization has made, the vision of funders, trustees and staff to become the Restorative Justice Council, and most importantly the members of the RJC – who's commitment and expertise have built this organisation and who are delivering restorative practice across the country." Our Chair, Lawrence Kershen QC said HRH's patronage was a "huge endorsement for the whole field of restorative practice." You can read Lawrence's full speech in our resource section.

Jo Nodding, a victim of serious crime who met her offender told delegates "I left the meeting feeling on ‘top of the world’ and for me it was closure. I do realise that not every victim would want to have a face to face meeting with the offender, but it should not be left to the victim having to ask for Restorative Justice." You can read Jo's story in our Case Studies section.
